Sometimes it's hard being a humorist. For instance, take www.sexquotes.com, the latest in a series of headline-grabbing erotic Web ventures. The concept is simple; a free quote service with nude images. Dumb, but simple. Dumb and simple, but probably extremely lucrative. And also ripe for parody. So Colette and I are sitting here thinking of possible humorous exaggerations. Sex Mail? My Sex-Filled Personalized Portal? Computer Auctions 'N' Porn? The problem, of course, is that two months from now all of those will probably thriving members of the online economy. Satire loses something after the IPO. I mean, we're dealing with a world where Yahoo not only has a masturbation category, but a category devoted specifically to Australian masturbation. Insert "Down Under" joke here. Anyhow. Weather and Porn. Erotic Travel Agencies. Headline Nudes. Video Game Tricks, Tips, and Tramps. Astro Porno Horoscopes. All disturbingly plausible. O brave new world, that has such peepholes in it. |
