Gorilla to 'Chat' Over Internet
In what is being billed at the first "interspecies" Internet chat,
Koko will sign on to America Online Monday to answer questions...
Working with her tutor and translator, Dr. Francine Patterson, Koko will
use her vocabulary of up to 1,000
signs to answer questions posed by Internet chatters.

A thousand signs. That may be a lot at the research center,
but "bring bring food good bird good" doesn't come up a lot in
your average Internet chat. If Koko's going to make it in
this brave new world, she's going to have to learn to recognize
a lot of new words and phrases.
