Man on the Moon is not about spacemen.
This really, really confused me, because I thought it would be all about spacemen. I like spacemen. I think they're cool, and I like to see spacemen run around and shoot each other with ray guns. And when a movie came out called Man on the Moon, I figured it would be about spacemen.
I was wrong.
It is about a guy who is dead. His name is Andy, and this is his review.
Andy was a strange man. He liked to play the guitar, he liked to meditate, and he liked to screw with the world. I once saw a movie about spacemen from space who were screwing with the world and it was cool and they had tentacles coming out of their heads. Andy doesn't have tentacles coming out of his head. He is not a spaceman.
Andy was a very odd person, even if he wasn't a spaceman. The movie follows his life as he climbs the ladder of Hollywood success. First he does bad stand-up. Then he does a really good TV show. Then he wrestles. Then he dies. Or at least so you are led to believe.
There are a lot of people who think that Andy is still alive. Most of these people also think that spacemen are here on Earth in disguise, and since I also think that, I guess I should think that Andy is alive, even though he died 15 years ago.
I hope I haven't ruined the movie for anyone.
Man on the Moon stars Jim Carrey, who was very funny when he played a spaceman in Earth Girls Are Easy. Carrey's character, Andy, never went to the moon, so I don't think he's supposed to be the guy they're talking about when they name the movie, Man on the Moon. They may be talking about Neil Armstrong, who did go to the moon, but Mr. Armstrong is not in this movie, so that seems like a bit of a stretch.
It is hard for me to truly review the Man on the Moon movie, because I so expected it to be about spacemen. So I was very disappointed. But actually, Man on the Moon was a very good movie and Mr. Carrey does a real good job being Andy. But since Andy may not be dead, it is possible that Andy secretly came back, renamed as Jim Carrey, and is now portraying himself in his own life's story.
That would be cool.
No review of this movie would be complete without a mention of Tony Clifton.
Jim Carrey, who is playing Andy, also plays Tony. Sometimes. Sometimes another guy plays him. The credits say that Tony Clifton plays himself. But there is no Tony Clifton. He was made up by Andy, even though he occasionally appeared on stage with Andy and he has been known to perform after Andy's death. Yes, I am confused too.
Tony was a really bad lounge singer, and he made everybody hate him.
Then Andy became a wrestler and made everybody hate him.
Then he did a concert and made everybody love him.
Then he died.
Again, I hope I'm not ruining the movie for anyone.
I'm gonna give Man on the Moon 3 4/3 Babylons. It was really good, even if it didn't have any spacemen in it, and Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman is also really good, and Jim Carrey as Tony Clifton is really good. And Jim Carrey as the spaceman in Earth Girls Are Easy was really good too.
Saw this movie with the SMC. Explained Andy Kaufman to the SMC after the movie. I think he misinterpreted my comments, which began with "Wow that Andy Kaufman is a space, man."
